Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a common mistake women make when starting a business. They spend most of their time doing the work that comes easily to them and often put off or avoid the hard stuff. (I did this too! And as my coach reminds me, I sometimes still do!)
If you’re reading this email, it’s because you’re fully committed to finding and signing clients and growing the balance in your bank account.
Well, one of the hard things that most skip is clarity in some of the most important parts of business – who you serve, what problem you solve, how you solve it, and why you’re so passionate about this work.
Let’s take a step back to explore the fundamental basics of your business model, offerings and practices. If you’re just starting out, this will help you set a strong foundation. If you’ve been in business for awhile but haven’t experienced the success you desire, this will help you uncover where you might need to make some adjustments.
Okay, now back to clarity.
So, what should you be clear on in your business?
Here are a few questions to be sure you can answer.
Who do you serve? Hint: It’s not everybody. Get clear on your ideal client. List their demographics and psychographics. Be as detailed as possible.
What problem do you solve? What are the major pain points your clients suffer? What solution do you offer? Hint: It’s not what you think they need, it’s what they think that they need.
How do you solve their problem? Do you offer a product, a service, training?
How do you make money? With all businesses there are services/products/offerings that have a greater return on investment. You want to be sure you focus on revenue-producing activities, especially when you’re struggling to hit your income goals. Take a look at what services are the most profitable in your business.
And the one thing that sets you apart – WHY? Why are you so passionate about your business and the clients you serve? Why are you committed to this great work? Why do you want to have an impact on the world?
