This time last year I was deciding whether or not to invest in a high-level group year-long coaching program with a very successful coach that I admire. She has built her business to a level that she not only has 7-figure years but 7-figure launches, all while fulfilling her deep desire to make a difference in her clients’ lives and a greater impact in the world. She is a delight and inspiration, and I can only imagine what it’s like to work with her one-on-one. This past week over 150 women from all over the world graduated from that group program. Seeing the many members of her community post their celebratory pictures on social media made my heart sing, knowing that they all went for it. They are finishing 2014 very proud of all they accomplished. I’m proud to know that more … [Read more...]
I sold candy out of my backpack
Some entrepreneurs are born ready to start their business. They know very young what they want to create. How they want to contribute. And then there’s the rest of us. Those who have the drive and passion to bring something to life but get lost along the way. I started my first business selling candy out of my backpack in middle school. It turned a nice profit that allowed me to buy toys, clothes and other things I HAD TO HAVE. As life went on, I followed the track that most of us get sucked into. I went to college, found a job and began my adult life. I spent my 20’s searching for a man to marry and have children with. It’s seemed like the right thing to do. Quickly, I realized this professional track was unfulfilling. I struggled to find work that allowed me to express … [Read more...]
Don’t make me pick just one!
Early in my business I struggled with making fundamental decisions out of fear that it would be the wrong choice. As if that one decision would make or break the success of my business. But here’s the reality - not making a choice was really what lead to my worst year in business in 2012. My accountant told me I wasn’t in business- I had a very expensive hobby. Yikes! Something I struggled with and see many other women entrepreneurs struggle with is deciding who to serve. Who will you serve? Who is your ideal client? What problem can you solve for her? Do you struggle to narrow your niche? You might be telling yourself that you can help everyone or that anyone would benefit from your product or service. I used to think that way too. I was wrong. There is so much noise in … [Read more...]
Are you ready to be who you are truly capable of being?
Do you ever find yourself longing for more? Do you feel you were meant for greatness but feel stuck? Are you waiting to check the next thing off the list (pay off one more bill, get one more client, write a book...etc.) before you allow yourself to live your dream go for it? My question to you, “How long are you going to stay stuck in this holding pattern?” The reality is, there will always be another thing. The unknown is just that, unknown. Be willing to grow. Get a little uncomfortable because all the magic happens outside your comfort zone. When you catch yourself falling into the same old pattern, consider these 3 steps… 1. Stop the voice in your head that’s telling you why you can’t have what you desire. 2. Remember how you want to feel - a feeling is far more … [Read more...]
What are you going for?
What are you going for these days? What are your dreams? What scares you the most about your dreams? I’m not sure where I get it from, but there are few things I won’t try. Once I set my mind on something, you can be sure it’s going to happen. For as long as I can remember, I was willing to go for it! - Trying out for a NCAA college co-ed cheerleading team even though I was “too” tall. - Running a marathon even though I only started training 9 months before. - Writing weekly emails and blog posts even though I was told for years I was a poor writer. - Starting a business during a recession. It’s not that I’m not afraid of failing because I am. But what’s more terrifying is regretting that I never tried when I had the … [Read more...]
Warning…cute pictures of my kids plus a big announcement
Happy Halloween! I hope you’re enjoying your little spooky monsters and able to take time today to step away from your work to truly enjoy the holiday. My husband and I are headed to a Halloween parade at my son’s school, then we’re hosting family for pizza before we head out to trick-or-treat. Here are some pictures of us at the Philadelphia Zoo’s Halloween celebration last weekend as well as one from last night's parade. *Finn wanted his face painted like a lion, making him super cat. Before I head out the door, I want to share that this has been an exciting week over here. On Tuesday night I hosted a live call, 3 Simple Solutions to Drop the Mommy Guilt. We had a great group of moms on the line. In case you missed it or you’d like to listen again, you can click … [Read more...]
Oh, crap! Not again
Life is all about learning. I believe I’m here on earth at this time, having this human experience, because there is much to learn. A lesson that I seem to revisit over and over and over again is my inability to detach from people’s reactions to my choices. The fear of disappointing those I love most has resulted in disappointing the most important person of all…me. Yes, that right. I was suffering to prevent others from suffering. It’s a terrible way to live. Every so often, when I’m not looking, it creeps up on me and says, “Boo!” And when I look at my reflection, I realize that I have over committed myself to please others. I’ve compromised something I value, and I’ve allowed another to take the joy. The good news is, it’s easy to get back on track. I … [Read more...]
[VIDEO] My gift to you…more time, would you like some?
Do you know the number one thing most women want more of? It’s not money. It’s not success. It’s time. We can all use a little more time. It’s often the excuse we tell ourselves to justify why we haven’t lost the weight, why we haven’t had success in business, or why we don’t make time for ourselves and our friends. It’s an excuse I use too. I hate when I catch myself saying it. . . If I only had more time. But here’s the reality, it’s not time that we desire more of. It’s the freedom to choose how we spend our time that we most desire. I have a special gift for you. In the video below, I’ll tell you exactly how you can have more time, start spending it doing the activities that truly bring you joy, and how to slowly do fewer and fewer of the activities that drag … [Read more...]
Is it possible to thrive without driving yourself into the ground?
No doubt moms are busy. Whether your children are young or adolescent – they require time and attention. What I’ve observed is that every woman is doing her best. And many women struggle with the guilt about how well they do it and how much time and energy they devote. Last Tuesday, I had the great privilege of speaking at a local women’s group, Bizzy Mamas. All the women in this group are mothers and business owners. The group was created by two “bizzy mamas,” Tina and Stephanie, when they realized they wanted to network with other mothers who were also business owners. The room was filled with successful, driven and passionate women, all striving to provide valuable work that has a positive impact on their families and communities. I thought this group of women … [Read more...]
It takes me 35 minutes to pack my son’s lunch
Photo credit: www.anotherlunch.com via www.popsugar.com How long does it take you to pack your child’s lunch? I wish I could say not long at all but I’ve noticed a pattern my behavior lately. It takes me 35 minutes to pack my son’s lunch. No, I don’t have cute cutout shapes of bread or Pintrest worthy bento boxes. Rather, I suffer from distracted mom syndrome. You see, I’ll start to make my son’s lunch and then the baby will be finished with her breakfast. So, I’ll grab her, clean her hands, wipe her face (all done at the sink) and then I’ll notice the growing pile of dishes and realize I need to empty the dishwasher. I’ll put the baby down, begin to empty the dishwasher and then remember that I was packing my son’s lunch. So I’ll go back to packing the lunch, … [Read more...]
