If only I had more time… If only I knew the right people… If only I had more money… If only I could leave my job… If only I weren’t so hard on myself… If only I wasn’t so obsessed with being perfect… If only I knew more about technology… If only I could outsource more of my work… If only I had someone to help me… If only... The list could go on and on of the reasons - or as Napoleon Hill in Think & Grow Rich refers to the “Fifty-five Famous Alibis by Old Man IF” - you haven’t experienced the results you had hoped for in the past year. Here’s the thing…all of these reasons are just not true. If you’re willing to see things differently and put effort towards changing your thoughts, especially the thoughts that justify your lack of success or … [Read more...]
Are you making it easy for your client to say YES?
Do you price your services based on what you think your clients would be willing to pay? Does that leave you struggling to meet your income goals? Worried about paying your business expenses? What keeps you up at night?
What keeps you up at night? For me it’s two kids and a dog that howls at sirens. Sleep is one of my favorite pastimes. Thankfully, because I’ve had so much practice and a full tool bag of tricks for quickly falling back asleep, I’m normally back asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow again. But Wednesday night things were different. For no apparent reason the dog howled at 1:49 am. It was the first time in months, and it startled me so badly I just couldn’t fall back asleep- mantras, breathing, tapping, none of it worked. So instead of lying there frustrated, I began to use this quiet time to explore my thoughts. One thought that began to run on repeat in my head was, “How can I support women to take consistent action, to follow through, to work on the to-do list, to … [Read more...]

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a common mistake women make when starting a business. They spend most of their time doing the work that comes easily to them and often put off or avoid the hard stuff. (I did this too! And as my coach reminds me, I sometimes still do!) If you’re reading this email, it’s because you're fully committed to finding and signing clients and growing the balance in your bank account. Well, one of the hard things that most skip is clarity in some of the most important parts of business - who you serve, what problem you solve, how you solve it, and why you’re so passionate about this work. Let’s take a step back to explore the fundamental basics of your business model, offerings and practices. If you’re just starting out, this will help you set a strong … [Read more...]
7 questions to ask yourself before you make your next business investment
No matter how long you’ve been in business, it’s clear that you need to spend money to make money. But far too often I witness women entrepreneurs waste money on things that won’t carry their business forward or produce more revenue. And true confession, I wasted a lot of money in my first year of business. It can be confusing to know where, how and when to invest and when to pass. Here are 7 questions to ask yourself before you make your next business investment. Do I need this to reach my next income goal? How will this allow me to serve my clients better? How will this help me achieve my desired success? Will this help me generate more revenue? Is this a need or a desire? Is this truly the best place for me to invest my resources at this time? Am I committed to … [Read more...]
The secret to finding clients
I know, I know, we’ve all said it at one point or another, “So I started my business. Now, where can I find clients?” Believe it or not, this is not the first question to ask. Don’t put the cart before the horse. First, be sure that you have a clear offer and that you understand who you’re looking for. Let me explain. In order to find the right clients, you need to know who you’re looking for because they’re not all hiding out in the same place. It’s likely they’re not hiding at all. Here are three questions to ask yourself: Who is my ideal client? Tip: It’s not “everyone” or “someone.” Be as detailed a possible. How can I help them or what problem do I solve? Tip: Focus on the pain point - What do they fear, what are they struggling with, what are they looking to … [Read more...]
It’s not your money story, it’s theirs…
It has become apparent to me that one of my biggest struggles but also opportunities for growth is my relationship with money. I struggle with my financial choices. I’m a dreamer and a believer. I have always felt there is a way, things will work out, and I trusted that one day I will be wealthy. The issue with that mindset is that one day never comes. Can you relate? One day is always off in the future. And with that mindset, I stay in a state of struggle. Of ups and downs. Of wins and losses. And even when money comes into my life, I end up using it for someone else - buying something for the kids or putting it towards a trip or something for the house. And the result - I don’t build wealth. I’m done with this story. We’re breaking up. I’m moving on. So the … [Read more...]
Want more time away from your kids?
Mom, ma, mama, MOM! Psst...mom (said in a whisper) … I’m up. For the last four years of my life that has been my alarm clock. When we moved I actually tossed my old bedside clock, making more room for books that I’ve yet to read. Kids are great - they have so much to teach us, their curiosity is contagious and the love they make you feel is immeasurable. But they’re exhausting. I mean really f’ing exhausting. Can you relate? I get tired. Cranky. Grumpy. Crabby. I crave more time away from it all - the kids, the cleaning, the laundry, the responsibilities, the never-ending feeding. I just need to get away. What I know for sure about myself is that I thrive best as a woman when I put my needs first - yoga, meditation, prayer, time with friends, and time alone. It … [Read more...]
Go from “I really don’t want to tell him because he’ll just say no” to “My husband is my #1 supporter”
I can remember the first time I went to my husband about making my first large investment in myself. It was a $9,000 program in NYC that required travel from Philly for 8 weekends. In total it would cost $12,000. At the time I wasn’t sure why I was drawn to the program, but I knew with every cell of my being that I had to go. I can remember how disappointed I was when he told me the timing wasn’t good. “You can go next year.” But next year came and he still said no. I started wonder why I had to wait. And furthermore, why he didn’t want me to go. Can you relate? Is there a big investment you’d like to make but you don’t have your husband’s support? Do you desire to start your own business but lack the start-up funds? Do you want to continue … [Read more...]
I thought I didn’t have a chance
Many little girls dream of being on the pages of fashion and glamour magazines. I was no different. I truly believed it was possible. In my youth I was skinny without effort. I had long legs. I was a shoo-in for sure. (Thanks, Mom for taking me to Bloomingdales for the open call even though I’m sure you knew I didn’t have a chance.) But I wasn’t tall enough. That was until Kate Moss hit the scene. She is only 5’7’’, just one inch taller than me. My hope was renewed. I’m not sure if it was the photo shoots, the beautiful clothes, the travel or the glamour but I really wanted to be a model. As I moved into my 20s, I realized the dream was dead. It wasn’t going to happen. But what I didn’t realize was I didn’t need to be a model. I didn’t need to be 6 feet tall. I … [Read more...]
